Wood sawdust briquettes
A popular
biomass briquette emerging in developed countries. Sawdust
based solid briquettes provide an energy efficient solution
for both commercial and household applications.
Sawdust
is compressed and then extruded into briquettes or logs that
can be used in solid fuel boilers or on open fires. There
are no binders involved in this process. The natural lignin
in the wood binds the particles of wood together to form a
solid block.
Burning
a wood briquette is far more efficient than burning firewood.
Moisture content of a briquette averages 8-10%, whereas the
moisture content of sawn logs may be is usually upwards of
50%.
Sawdust
briquettes have developed over time with various types destined
for:-
- commercial
applications in co-generation facilities producing both
electricity and heat for distribution in industrial complexes
or in local communities and

Study - Low Environmental impact of Sawdust based
fuels in Nigeria
Estimation of Carbon Emission Reduction in a Cogeneration
System Using Sawdust
The reduction of carbon emissions resulting from using
sawdust in a cogeneration system has been estimated
as follows.
Sawdust briquettes were produced and the elemental
analysis, ash content, density, calorific value, crushing
strength, and moisture content of the briquettes were
determined.
The energy and material requirements of a 25 MW combined
heat and power station and the estimation of emissions
in the plant and the baseline emissions were carried
out.
Five such plants have been commissioned in Nigeria
providing total carbon emission reduction of 500
thousand tonnes CO2/yr as compared with oil-fired
power stations.

Benefits
of using sawdust briquettes - the environmentally friendly
fuel
- 100%
ecologically clear tough fuel, made of leafy wood sawdust,
very good for all solid fuel fuel boilers and fireplaces.
- Sawdust
briquettes are a smokeless fuel compliant with urban regulations
apllied worldwide.
- Low
Ash generation - < 0,5%.
- Sawdust
briquettes burn efficienty is double that of sawn logs.
The calorific efficieny upwards of 4700 kcal/kg twice as
efficient as sawn logs.
